Discovering the Hidden Gems of Tam Coc Ninh Binh
Exploring the Beauty of Tam Coc Ninh Binh and Its Goat Delicacies
Nestled in the majestic province of Ninh Binh, Vietnam, lies a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Tam Coc is also known as "Halong Bay on land". It is a scenic destination filled with towering limestone cliffs, lush rice paddies, and picturesque rivers. This charming location offers visitors a tranquil escape into a world of natural beauty and delicious cuisine.
As a travel agent, I had the opportunity to visit Tam Coc recently to pick up a gift from a client. Little did I know that this short visit would turn into an unforgettable experience filled with stunning landscapes and delightful dishes.
A Visual Feast
As I arrived in Tam Coc, I was greeted by the breathtaking scenery that surrounded me. The emerald green rice fields stretched as far as the eye could see, creating a serene background for the impressive mountains and winding rivers.
But, the best way to truly take in the beauty of Tam Coc is by taking a rowing boat ride along the Ngo Dong River. Hopping onto one of the traditional bamboo boats, your guide will start rowing with his/her feet – a skill that will amaze you.
The gentle sway of the boat against the calm waters of the river is incredibly therapeutic. While the spectacular views along the way will leave you in awe. As you pass under caves and through lush greenery, you can’t help but feel like you are in a fairytale.
One other thing, not just the stunning landscapes. This is what helps Tam Coc stand out from other destinations in Vietnam, its famous goat dishes.
A Culinary Adventure
One of my favorite things about traveling is discovering new cuisines, and Tam Coc did not disappoint. My first stop was a local restaurant called "Tung De". Here I tried their signature dish – goat stir-fried with lemongrass, chili, and fried onions. As a meat lover, I was pleasantly surprised by how tender and flavourful the dish was. The combination of spices and aromatics enhanced the natural flavours of the meat, creating a mouth-watering experience.
Next up, I tried a bowl of broken rice soup. This is made from crispy burnt rice served in a duck soup. The texture and depth of flavours in this dish left me wanting more.
Even though it’s on the main road in Tam Coc. Many people will walk past this restaurant due to many restaurants all looking the same. It can be missed by passersby. But, as I slurped away, I couldn't help but feel grateful for discovering this hidden gem of a restaurant.
After filling my tummy with delicious goat delicacies, it was time to collect my gift. A bag filled with 120 tea bags of my favorite British brand – Yorkshire Tea. My client had gone out of her way to bring a piece of home to Vietnam for me, which made the experience even more special.
